Asheville Tourists Tyler Matzek

Last evening lefty Tyler Matzek pitched 6 strong innings for the Tourists. He allowed the Sand Gnats only one run(a home run by Harris in the first), walked 2, gave up 4 hits and struck out eight. For someone out of high school, he showed poise and had good mechanics. Baseball America ranks him the number 1 prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization.
Matzek reminded me of the 2008 season when Augusta came to Grayson Stadium and a left handed pitcher, Madison Bumgarner, pitched well against the Sand Gnats. Baseball America ranks Bumgarner as the 2nd best prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization. Last year Bumgarner appeared in 4 games for the Giants, was 0-0, and had an ERA of 1.80. Not sure where Bumgarner is pitching at the moment.
