The Atlanta Braves played the Washington Nationals in the Braves final home stand of the year. Their were four starting players for the Nationals who played for the Savannah Sand Gnats in the opening series. John Lannon was the starting pitcher(2006), Ian Desmond was the shortstop(2005), Ryan Zimmerman played third base(2005), and Justin Maxwell was the starter in center field(2006). Both Maxwell and Desmond hit home runs during the end of the season.
Maxwell made his pro debut with the Sand Gnats on April 29, 2006, and hit a three-run home run in his second at bat.
