Jason Heyward-future superstar
Yesterday Paul White wrote an article in the USA Today, "Braves want to send Cox out a winner." The article mentions powerful, 20 year old, Jason Heyward in spring trainning trying to make the roster of the Atlanta Braves. "He hit balls you couldn't believe," Cox says.
During the 2008 season, Heyward played for the Rome Braves minor league baseball team which visited Historic Grayson Stadium in Savannah, home of the Savannah Sand Gnats. Heyward hit a towering drive to straight away center field that cleared the 400ft. fence and hit about 10 feet on the giant scoreboard behind the fence. The next time the Rome Braves returned to Savannah, I met with Heyward to have him autograph his top prospect baseball card. While Heyward autographed his card, I asked him if the 400 ft. plus drive he hit over the center field fence was the longest home run he hit that year and he replied, "No."
Bobby Cox, "I believe."
